Nowadays I have more to write than to sing. Read this with an ease of being and wish for early singing! Maginhrad is a hill above Botto's birthplace, Vyšný Skálnik.

The small castle above Rimava was one of the fortresses that King Matej had demolished in the middle of the 15th century. The hill is so named to this day, it has 432 m.

Botto wrote the verse Legend of Maginhrad in 1846 and later the Myth of Maginhrad, which was not published until 1862. He treated the Legend of Maginhrad as a verse poem in a non-allegorical way. The myth of Maginhrad testifies to its growing tendency to allegorize. One topic - two treatments. I divided the extensive Báj Maginhradu, it will be two separate songs - Báj Maginhradu (first part) and Báj Maginhradu (second part).

In the legend, Botto describes the story of Princess Maga, who during the siege of the castle throws down the hill a large round loaf of bread so that the enemies would think the defenders have an excess of supplies. The myth of Maginhrad brings closer an old legend, according to which an army of knights in full armor sleeps on a hill. They are to come to the country's aid when it is most needs it. Every year on the day of the Ascension of the Lord, knights must drink the blood of Christ from the cup, which will always be replenished by itself. Once the chalice is left empty, it will be a sign for them to pull into battle.

If the poet was first attracted to the theme of the castle by the specific human destinies of its former inhabitants, he now saw in it, above all, an allegorical symbol of a cursed force ready to fight "for new hopes".

Let hope happen!
