During the reign of Prince Turan, the whole of Turiec formed a large, round lake. There used to be a beautiful White Maiden who lured the young men to her with her lovely singing and then drowned them. Prince Turan decided to catch her in a net knitted with thin, copper threads and marry her. He tied himself to a tree so that the White Virgin would not drown him. In the evening, the White Virgin began to sing and approach Turan. When Turan saw her, he couldn't resist her beauty. He jerked the rope with which he was tied to a tree and flew into the White Virgin's arms. She took him to the depths of the lake. Turan's people began to save the prince. When Turan regained consciousness, he swore revenge on the White Virgin. One hundred strong men began to break the rocks so that the water from the lake would drain from Váh. That's what happened. The White Virgin disappeared, and with her the lake in which she lived.
